A very rare Yamaha SG5A, commonly known as the 'Flying Samurai' model dating from 1970 (made in Japan).
A super rare Japanese-built Yamaha which was only produced from 1967-71. This guitar has lived a life, but is in near all original condition and sounds quite like no other comparable guitar. Stu from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard plays a similar model and makes great use of it - worth checking out!
Very evidently gigged and played with numerous marks and patina to the finish - though no breaks, repairs or issues.
Specs:
- Country of origin: Japan
- Year of manufacture: 1970 (as per serial)
- Finish: Pearl White
- Bolt on maple neck
- Roller bridge
- 6x Yamaha 'Pincushion' tuners
- 3x Yamaha single coil pickups (with 'blend' configuration)
Condition:
As above, it's a very used guitar with numerous marks, dings and wonderful vintage patina - but no breaks or repairs. Frets have a fair bit of wear but its playing fine - fair amount of life left in them for a level / dress, etc. Some great sounds to be had from the pickups - they are truly unique (Yamaha describes them as having 'anisotrophic ferrite magnets', fun). 2 of the knobs are missing their silver tops (pictured).
Modifications/repairs:
Replaced tremolo tip.
